ROLAND GARROS WHEELCHAIR TENNIS DRAW MADE IN PARIS
The Roland Garros wheelchair tennis draw was made in Paris on Wednesday evening, with South African top women’s player Kgothatso Montjane drawn to meet world number 3 Aniek Van Koot from the Netherlands in Thursday’s first round.
The 32-year-old from Limpopo will be making her third appearance in the second Grand Slam tournament on the 2018 UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour which takes place from 7-9 June.
Montjane will get a chance to avenge her 2014 Roland Garros quarter-final loss against the Dutch world number 3 Van Koot when the two women slug it out for a position in the semi-final.
In 2013, montjane bowed out in the semi-final round to the Dutch world number 1 Jiske Griffioen. In 2014, the left-hander was very close to reaching the semi-finals again before Van Koot complicated her chances with a 6-3 6-4 defeat.
Montjane said she’s confident and looks forward to the challenge, “I have been training very hard the past few weeks and I plan to stage my best game in Paris. Hopefully I can do something big this year.”
“I feel great and prepared for the tournament,” Montjane said.
