With over 50 nominations, Wheelchair Tennis South Africa (WTSA) are holding their own in this year’s Gauteng Sports Awards nominees list announced at Emoyeni Estate in Parktown last night, while the actual awards ceremony will be held at Silverstar Casino on Sunday, 02 October.

South African top junior and world number one Nokwanda Hlongwane who recently scooped two awards at the Spar Gsport Awards last week dominated the list with two nominations: Most promising player/athlete and School sport athlete of the year.

World number three quad ace Lucas Sithole and the country’s top women’s player Kgothatso Montjane who jetted off last night to Brazil for the Rio Paralympics both garnered one each. Sithole and Montjane were named Sportsman of the year with disability and sportswoman of the year with disability respectively.

The nomination of the Federation’s General Manager, Karen Losch for the Administrator of the year completed Wheelchair Tennis South Africa's magnificent year and could claim five awards this year.

Wheelchair Tennis South Africa General Manager Karen Losch said: “We are extremely overjoyed with the five nominations we received last night. It is a privilege and an honour for our athletes and myself to be recognized on this prestige level. We wouldn’t have achieved all these if it wasn’t of the generous sponsorship from Airports Company South Africa, the game sponsor”
