PORT ELIZABETH HOSTS THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL WHEELCHAIR TENNIS EVENT OF 2014
The Port Elizabeth Lawn Tennis Club is playing host to the 6th and final Wheelchair Tennis tournament of 2014. The Airports Company South Africa EC Open, running from the 11-14 December, is one of the events on the UNIQLO World Wheelchair Tennis Tour, and is proudly sponsored by Airports Company South Africa.
This years event is expected to be a crowd pleaser with players like Evans Maripa currently ranked no 14 on the men's world ranking, taking to the court. Maripa, is a clear favourite for the men's draw, but other players to watch include Leon Els, local favourite, Marshall Marsh, and Austrian Nico Langmann.
The ladies draw however is expected to be hottly contested with the youngster from Soweto, Thando Hlatshwayo, Mariska Venter and Rose van der Meer all hungry for the title and the ranking points. These 3 players are only seperated by 3 ranking points and all within a stones throw of the required ranking to qualify for the 2016 Paralympics.
Bongani Dlamini headlines the quads division and will be on the lookout for Danny Mohlamonyane who came within a point of ousting the former at the Airports Company Pretoria Open recently.
