Wheelchair Tennis wins Volunteer of the Year Award
The Spar Gsport award for Volunteer of the Year award was conferred to the hard working Mthatha centre manager, Khweshy Dubula in recognition of the dedicated work put in at the Ikhwezi Lokusa School and the Mthatha community at large.
In 2009, Dubula was instrumental in starting the Ikhwezi Lokusa school wheelchair tennis team which at the time included members from the Mthatha community. At the time the centre only has 10 players and over the 5 years with the support of Airports Company South Africa has grown to an enormous 50 players taking part in the weekly coaching programme, and camps within the region.
As centre manager she voluntarily oversees the facilitation of coaching, talent identification and travelling with players to various events across the country during school holidays. Dubula recognized and dedicated the award to the team around her, singling out top 10 wheelchair tennis player and Coach Mzwanele Thintsi for ensuring that the sport grows in leaps and bounds in the area.
Under her tutelage, Dubula has seen players such as Nonkanyiso Nyosi, Mncedi Zenani and Vuysiani Mantshula shooting to stardom in no time and in the process winning a bronze medal at the 2014 National Schools Sport Championships held in Bloemfontein. Dubula is an inspiration to us all and is always willing to assist in whatever aspect of the sport, stated Siyabulela Nkachela, WTSA's Community Programmes and Media Manager, with her in the team you are bound to achieve the much desired growth of the sport via an undying love for development of others, Nkachela concluded.
