AIRPORTS COMPANY SOUTH AFRICA HONOURED AT SPAR GSPORT AWARDS 2014

The 9th Spar gSport Awards ceremony was held at the Wanderers Club in Illovo, Johannesburg this morning. The aim of the award ceremony was to celebrate South Africa's top female athletes and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the promotion of Women's sport in South Africa

Airports Company South Africa was awarded the Corporate Sponsor of the Year for their contribution to the growth and performance of Wheelchair Tennis in South Africa, and the effect it has had on women's sport. With this being the 10th Year of their sponsorship of Wheelchair Tennis, it seems not only fitting, but very deserved. Airports Company South Africa has been the official sponsor of Wheelchair Tennis South Africa since 2005. Through their continued sponsorship Wheelchair Tennis has grown the sport from a handful of players to a few hundred participating weekly. The continued sponsorship has allowed wheelchair tennis to produce a number of sporting role models and stars, including Kgothatso Montjane, and the up and coming Mariska Venter.

In addition to Airports Company South Africa's award, this years' Spar gSport Awards honoured two unsung Wheelchair Tennis heroines – Mrs Dubula, who won volunteer of the Year and Mariska Venter who was a finalist in the up and coming athlete of the year category.

Wheelchair Tennis SA manager Karen Losch said: "We are elated with the well deserved recognition that Airports Company South Africa received at the Spar gSport Awards. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Airports Company South Africa for believing in our players and the inspirational sport of Wheelchair Tennis. This is a very special accolade especially during the Disability Month in South Africa."
