KG Montjane ready for Roland Garros
South Africa's top women's wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane has prepared well and is ready for the French Open Grand Slam at Roland Garros 4-6 June 2014.
Montjane has won 3 doubles title this year, the most recent being the Airports Company South Africa SA Open with partner Marjolein Buis (NED). In singles, Montjane's best result for 2014 thus far is runner up at the Airports Company South Africa Gauteng Open where she lost to the world no.1 Sabine Ellerbrock (GER) 6-4, 2-6, 2-6. Currently Kg Montjane is ranked no.7 in the world and is looking forward to play in her second French Open Grand Slam. Montjane reached the semi-finals in the singles and doubles at last year's event.
At the age of 20 years Kg Montjane began her tennis career in earnest when Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) provided a wheelchair tennis programme in her community. The Limpopo born tennis star completed her degree - a BSC degree in Recreation and Leisure at the University of Venda in 2010. Today, Kgothatso is a formidable player on the international circuit with a career best ranking of no.5 in the world (June 2013). Montjane is working hard to break into the top 4 players in the world in 2014.
The world top seven women and men's players plus 2 wild cards at the entry deadline 14 April 2014 will participate in this prestigious Grand Slam tournament. No quads draw is offered at this event.
