Montjane and Maripa ready to Chip and Charge at the Cajun Classic, USA.
Two of South Africa's top wheelchair tennis stars Kgothatso Montjane and Evans Maripa have left for the USA to compete in the 25th annual Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. This ITF Grade 1 event will be taking place from 19-23 March 2014 at the Lamar Tennis Centre in Baton Rouge, LA, USA.
Kgothatso Montjane, currently ranked world no.7, is positive, upbeat and looking forward to competing in this event. Montjane says, "I have been working hard on my game, and look forward to testing it against the worlds' best before the Airports Company South Africa SA Open in April." Evans Maripa, another young and talented SA player, has also put in the hours and is determined to climb the ranking ladder and enter the top 10 players in the world in 2014. Maripa says, "I am going to use the opportunity I have been given by Airports Company South Africa to train, compete and hopefully move into the top 10 players in the world during 2014. I have the the game, the support, and now the belief."
Both Montjane and Maripa will also be taking part in the Pensacola Open 26-30 March after which they will return to South Africa to prepare for the two events we are hosting here – the Airports Company South Africa Gauteng Open 23-27 April, and the Airports Company South Africa SA Open 29 April – 3 May.
SA Sports Awards coach of the year Holger Losch said, "The two tournaments in the USA give our players an opportunity for match practice prior to them competing in the two international tournaments we are hosting in South Africa in April. We can see how they fair against their international rivals, and then return home to sharpen and focus. We wish both Montjane and Maripa all the best, and invite you to follow them on the Wheelchair Tennis Twitter and Facebook pages."
Participation in local and international tournaments such as these is made possible by the generous sponsorships offered by Airports Company South Africa, the official sponsor of the sport.
