SA Junior wows Belgium
Alwande Skhosana has fired a salvo to all and sundry during a two week wheelchair tennis tour in Belgium. The dimunitive lad from Harding in Kwazulu-Natal won his first singles title at the second draw of Memorial Jens Vanherck at a tender age of 12.
Skhosana is no stranger to winning and actually winning big. In June he made the finals of the Airports Company South Africa SOWETO Open only to lose to a seasoned player. In Belgium he continued that winning tradition where he came short of making the finals at the Johan Cruyff Eurpean Junior Camp, losing in three sets to Stijn Chiers of Belgium in the quarterfinals.
The second week saw the change of fortunes at the Memorial Jens Vanherck. Skhosana ousted three Belgians to prove his mettle and capture the title in fine style. A victory at the event was also sweet since he avenged his loss to Chiers in a convincing 6-4 6-0 scoreline.
The future looks brighter for South Africa, WTSA and Alwande Skhosana, watch out for this boy in the near future. His next outing is at the Eastern Cape Open in Port Elizabeth from 23-26 September 2013.
